Faculty Position: Middle School Science Teacher
(Full-time position)

Palm Beach Day Academy, established in 1921, is an independent coeducational school, serving 450 students from age 2 to Grade 9, on two campuses. The foundation of PBDA’s program is the education of our students in an academically challenging and compassion-rich environment that guides each child toward personal excellence of mind, body and character.  At all levels, our students will be, as our mission states, challenged to excel, 
empowered to act
, and prepared to lead. The Upper Campus, which houses Grades 4-9, seeks a Middle School Science teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.

The ideal candidate should bring a passion for scientific inquiry, a demonstrated mastery of content knowledge, growth mindset and a desire to create a student-centric, interdisciplinary classroom whereby students experience an environment that fosters a love of science and the skill set to question, test and draw conclusions from the world around them.

Candidates should be flexible and stay current with educational research in order to be prepared to teach the course content effectively. A strong interest in technology and the ability to use it as a teaching tool in our one-to-one computing environment are imperative.

PBDA science teachers must employ a variety of teaching strategies in and out of the classroom in order to be effective for all types of learners. This may include, but not limited to: hands-on learning; project-based learning; place-based learning; collaborative activities; content reading; discussion; and technology.

A willingness to collaborate in the development of curriculum is an essential skill, as the Middle School science team is in the midst of an exciting curricular redesign. The best candidates will also demonstrate an ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.

Strong candidates will have 5-7 years of middle school experience. While all applicants will hold a Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Science, a Master’s degree is preferred. For more information, view the contents of our website.
