PBDA Named Green School of Excellence for 12th Year in a Row

For the twelfth year in a row, Palm Beach Day Academy is thrilled to be recognized with a Green School of Excellence Award by the Florida Atlantic University Green Schools Recognition Program! PBDA has received this award each year since the FAU program began twelve years ago.

The program recognizes schools’ efforts to be models of environmental stewardship and sustainability within Palm Beach County and Martin County. Schools must complete an extensive application each year which is reviewed and scored by a panel of judges. The Green School of Excellence Award is the highest honor within the program. “PBDA understands the interdependency between human actions and the environment, and that the condition of our environment plays a direct role in the quality of our lives and our health,” said Erin Mitchell, Upper Campus Science Department Chair and co-chair of the Green School application. “Environmental education is seen as one of the most powerful ways to create an eco-literate society that is capable of taking on the challenge of creating a sustainable planet, ultimately improving the health and quality of life for global citizens for generations to come. Therefore, we strive to create eco-literate students who move from environmental awareness to action.”

As part of the application process to maintain the school’s Green School of Excellence status, the “Green Team” – Erin Mitchell on the Upper Campus and Stephanie Walker on the Lower Campus – submitted narrative and documentation of ways in which the PBDA school community has integrated environmental topics into the curriculum, made school ground enhancements to help the environment, field studies, community partnerships, and more.
