Students in Grades 4-9 are exposed to a variety of sports through their required participation in physical activity every day of the year.

Grades 4-6

In Grades 4 and 5, both boys and girls participate in a coed, multifaceted and traditional P.E. program that includes large and small group games and activities, serving as an introduction to team sports. Any student in Grades 4-9 can tryout for the tennis and golf teams.

Beginning in Grade 6, PBDA introduces the concept of team sports to both boys and girls, and students participate in interscholastic games and matches. Any student in Grades 4-9 can tryout for the tennis and golf teams. 

Each Fall, PBDA hosts an “Athletics Information Night” for Grades 6 through 9 where students and parents can learn more about the various PBDA sports offered, required uniforms and equipment, sports travel schedules, and more.

Grades 7-9

Students in Grades 7 through 9 are required to play either Junior Varsity (JV) or Varsity sports year-round. Students can also opt-out of JV and Varsity athletics and participate in “Fitness,” which includes frisbee, beach runs, yoga and more.

Each Fall, PBDA hosts an “Athletics Information Night” for Grades 6 through 9 where students and parents can learn more about the various PBDA sports offered, required uniforms and equipment, sports travel schedules, and more.

JV and Varsity Athletics

JV practice is held during 8th Period, and playing time during JV games is guaranteed. Varsity practice is held during 9th Period and requires a try-out selection process. Varsity coaches do not guarantee playing time during games. The Varsity teams play for a championship amongst a nine team conference.

Sports Offered

Upper Campus Boys’ sports include: Flag Football (Fall), Soccer (Winter 1), Basketball (Winter 2), and Lacrosse or Fitness (Spring).

Upper Campus Girls’ sports include: Volleyball (Fall), Basketball and Field Hockey (Winter 1), Soccer (Winter 2), and Lacrosse or Fitness (Spring).

Uniforms

P.E. uniforms typically include navy blue shorts and a grey PBDA T-shirt, available for purchase at the PB Boys and Girls Club in Palm Beach or online at Lands’ End.

All students in Grades 5 and 6 require sneakers. PBDA provides game uniforms for students of all grades.

Alternative Sports Policy

Select students in Grades 8 and 9 are eligible to play Alternative Sports in lieu of participating in PBDA’s sports program. For more information about qualification requirements, please visit the webpage. Select Alternative Sports prior PBDA students have participated in include golf, polo, swimming, diving, riding and tennis, among others.
